As someone who has raised two children around the world, it is rare to see a children’s book that captures the heart and imagination with true respect for other cultures and traditions. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and the writing is detailed and rich
-it transports parents and kids alike to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and reminds us to stay curious. You are never too old or too young to travel, experience new places, and treasure the memories that enrich the journey along the way.
It's exciting to visit foreign places and take in the sights, but it's especially magical to see those places through the eyes of child. This story is told from the perspective of Riley: he's captivated by the wonders he encounters as well as the more ordinary things - like pigeons! - too. It's all part of the experience. We also get hints of Riley's mother's care, warmth and spirit of adventure. A delightful book for all ages, highly recommend!
This book came at the perfect time. My children and I just finished a unique and unforgettable summer. This book reminded me of the joy in finding a way to capture those memories and cement them. I love that the story is told from the little boy Riley’s perspective too. He reminds you of how kids process the world around them. I highly recommend sharing this book, especially with those who can’t resist adventure!
